Peter Prestley is former Deputy General Counsel of The Travelers, where he had responsibility for major and complex litigation, including employment and employee benefit matters, as well as responsibilities in the areas of tax, business and corporate law. In 1994, Mr. Prestley moved from Travelers to represent Travelers at the firm of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett in New York, NY. In 1997, he commenced his private practice on behalf of individuals in the employment and benefit law and litigation areas.
Mr. Prestley received his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in 1969. In 1972, he received a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Connecticut Law Review.
Mr. Prestley is currently a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, and has spoken at and attended both national and regional meetings of that association. He is also a member of the Connecticut Employment Lawyers Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and the Hartford County Bar Association.
Other posts and activities include: former Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Joint Committee on Employee Benefits, the ABA's lead committee on employee benefits, which works annually with Congressional staff on legislative and regulatory policy development.
Mr. Prestley is also former Chair of the 35,000 member Tort and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the ABA, and former Chair of that Section's Employee Benefits Committee. He is also a former member of the ABA Special Committee on Environmental Law and has spoken and been published internationally on environmental law policy issues.
He was one of four ABA Delegates to the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development held in Rio Di Janeiro in 1992, and also served on the select World Order Under Law Committee, which is the principal ABA interface with the United Nations.
Attorney Prestley is also a former Section President of the Union Internationale des Advocates, one of the two leading international bar associations. |
